Relation

Society and Narrative
Through the project  I explored and analyse  Modern society in a narrative method. Furthermore, my visual journal has been a continuous  response and critique on Society , whereas I illustrated in a sequential  way or narrative .

Identity and Addiction
One of the key moment from my essay ,was the incorporation of the Identity and virtual Identity as a investigation on Society. Virtual Identity has demonstrated during my essay ,  to be an modern addiction and I also reflected n my visual journal.

Social Media and Critique
The relation between these two word can be describe as the main concept and approach of my project. I've used examples of BlackMirror episodes to analyse, contrast ,compare and most importantly, critique the Social Media nowadays.

Satire and Cartoon
As part of my visual work , I've used the principles of Satire as my main method to critically respond Social Media. To execute these ideas,  I focused my practice through Cartoon on my visual Journal, which I think is the perfect combination to be pair with Satire .

 Technology and Singularity
The combination of these two words has been one of the two starting points  on my visual Journal ( 1 full side ) .  I explored and represented the idea of technological Singularity  as part of my satiric critique on Modern society.

Rationale - Study Task 8

What is your theme? The essay explore and investigate  the human psyche and how  the theory manifest  into practice through social media .  The essay study and apply  Sigmund Freud's human Psyche theory into practice  on modern society. It discus and critiques the relation between the mind and Identity  and online identity . The essay will use examples from the tv show Black Mirror , to  compare and analyse these theories into practice.

How are you exploring it visually ( methodology)
Im responding to my theme through line and texture .

Why are you doing it this way ?

In order to do a visual critique, I will use satire and caricature skills  to visually respond to my ideas. As one of the main characteristic from cartoons and charicatures, the line is  an element always present , so I decided that i will stick to its fundamental element as part of my practice.

Materials ?
I will mainly use fine liner pen ( Also, to improve my line skills and pulse through the journal) , although some ink or watercolour may be present

Any key theorist who have influenced this ?

SIGMUND FREUD  -  Human Psyche ( Id,Ego and SuperEgo)

SHERRY TURKLE - Identity

MARSHALL MC LUHAN - Global village

Social Media Articles

This post is a compilation of some articles I've found during my research process related to social media, psychology and society related to my essay. Some of them I found  very interesting and i will probably going to extract some of the key information and including it on my essay at some point.

This short but accurate articles talks about some different topics about Social Media. It is very interesting how they related addictions issues to modern society. Social Media has become one of the most dangerous addiction of our century , but what is really alarming is that is not considered yet as a threat for the people, the same way that cocaine or metanphetamines can be dangerous for the consumer aswelll.

This articles is also takes a more scientific approach and explore and explain the chemical reactions that makes connections between social media and our brains.  It also suggest that the social media can trick our brain with the same chemical substance that our braings generate when we got hugs.  According to Sigmund Freud human psyche theoy, i think i will definitely have a look at the relation between addiction, social media and our identy and try to triangulate this critique .

I found this profesor (Aaron Balick)  and a book he wrote called  " The psycodynamis of social networking. I couldn't find the full copy anywhere ( except buying it from internet, which I dont want to) but just having a peak on the book  I think I may use it for further references on my essay .
